Profile – Stuart Jones

Stuart is an experienced finance executive who has worked with a wide variety of Companies. He has been involved in areas such as company turnarounds, strategic planning, staff management and development, systems implementation and upgrading financial control and management reporting processes.

He has a Counselling Certificate and is currently taking a part time Diploma in Counselling at Leicester University.

He is a registered NFEA Business Mentor and supports entrepreneurs on a voluntary basis, through the Centre for Enterprise in Leicester.

Stuart qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1979 with Unilever plc. He held a number of senior positions in a variety of sectors and an interest in interim management roles subsequently led him to serve an extended period, latterly as Finance and Services Director with a business operating in the vocational training sector. He now supports SME’s in part time roles and has a special interest in the psychology of personal development.

 Assignments & Expertise

  • Vocational training provider - £20m t/o. FD role. Worked closely with the MD to turn the business around including restructuring the finance function and reintroducing traditional banking facilities.
  • Private motor vehicle group - Working as a consultant, reorganised their Head Office finance structure and implemented a new consolidation and executive information system
  • Gas pipeline business - Working as an adviser, performed operational finance reviews of their banking services and property management
  • International services group - Senior manager role. Managed a highly professional, internationally mobile and risk based operational audit function.
  • Motor vehicle dealer group - Internal consultant. Managed a decentralisation project including the implementation of new computer systems into 18 dealerships
  • Truck dealer group - Group Accountant. Managed a decentralised accounting function on a group basis. Organised and facilitated a best practice transfer programme across all business activities. Extended business systems development including the replacement of computer systems.
  • Vehicle assembly plant (Nigeria) - Commercial Manager. Achievements included the implementation of centralised accounting for nine distribution outlets and the integration of systems following the merger of two divisions.
